ClothOff and Undress.app: How to Remove AI-Generated Nudes of Yourself
AI nudify apps like ClothOff, Undress.app, DeepSwap, and SoulGen generate synthetic nude images from any clothed photo. Even if no real intimate image of you exists, an AI generated nude of your face is covered by the TAKE IT DOWN Act and platforms hosting that content must remove it within 48 hours.
This is the removal path.
The Legal Foundation
47 U.S.C. § 223a explicitly covers synthetic intimate imagery. Section 1309 of the Act defines a covered intimate visual depiction to include "a digital forgery" of an identifiable individual. The 48-hour removal obligation applies whether the depicted person ever took an intimate photo or not.
This was the most important provision the 2026 Congress added relative to earlier state laws. State revenge porn statutes generally required a real underlying image. The federal Act closed that loophole.
Where AI-Generated Nudes Spread
The distribution pipeline is consistent:
- Generated on a nudify app (ClothOff, Undress.app, DeepSwap, SoulGen, Civitai).
- Posted to Telegram channels, Discord servers, or 4chan boards.
- Mirrored to Reddit NSFW subreddits within hours.
- Scraped by adult tube sites within 24 to 48 hours.
- Indexed by reverse image search tools after several days.
By the time most victims discover an AI nude, it has already moved through three or four hops. The notice strategy has to cover the full pipeline, not just the most visible site.
How to File a Removal Notice
For each hosting platform, file a Section 223a notice that:
- Identifies the URL where the image appears.
- States that the image is a digital forgery generated without consent and that you are the depicted person.
- Cites Section 1309 of the TAKE IT DOWN Act for digital forgery coverage.
- Sets the 48-hour deadline.
You do not have to identify which app generated the image. The legal obligation falls on the host, not the generator. But identifying the source app helps with downstream prevention because some apps have begun complying with FTC consent decrees that require them to refuse to generate likenesses of repeat-victim faces.
The App Itself
ClothOff and Undress.app are both currently subject to active FTC investigations under Section 5 of the FTC Act. Reporting your case to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov contributes to those investigations even though it does not directly cause a removal. The FTC has so far obtained settlements requiring two AI nudify apps to implement face block lists for known victims.
What Does Not Work
- Reporting the image as "not your real body." The TAKE IT DOWN Act does not require the image to be real, and a denial of authenticity gives the platform a reason to argue the content is not covered.
- Asking the app developer to delete the source. Most nudify apps are operated outside US jurisdiction and ignore individual requests.
- Watermark removal or counter-content. Trying to flood the internet with corrected versions almost always increases visibility of the original.
What Does Work
A coordinated, simultaneous Section 223a notice campaign to every hosting platform, with FTC escalation for any platform that refuses. ScanErase tracks 41 AI nudify apps and the typical distribution patterns for each. When we find your likeness on a hosting platform, our notice cites both Section 223a and the specific generator app, which has produced faster compliance because it signals to the platform that the FTC investigation provides a legal exposure they want to limit.
