The combined situation

AI deepfake intimate imagery of you is being hosted and discussed in a subreddit, possibly one specifically dedicated to deepfake content. Reddit's NCII removal pipeline includes both content level removal and subreddit level enforcement. When this scenario plays out on Mastodon specifically, removal proceeds through the statutory takedown process under 47 USC 223a combined with the scenario specific response that spread cases require.

Why this combination is high risk

Federated content spreads across multiple instances through reposts and replies. Removing from the originating instance does not remove from the cached copies on every instance that federated the post. For subreddit deepfake cases, subreddits dedicated to deepfake content have been a documented enforcement target for reddit. the platform has banned multiple deepfake subreddits over the past several years, but new ones recur.

How removal proceeds

Mastodon is federated across thousands of independent instances. Removal requires identifying the specific instance hosting the content and contacting that instance's admin directly. Reddit enforcement at the subreddit level produces comprehensive removal including all hosted content and the operating community simultaneously. This is more effective than chasing individual posts.
